Sonya Dyer

Sonya Dyer’s commission for Art Night 2021 continues Hailing Frequencies Open, her ongoing body of work intersecting the Greek myth and constellation of Andromeda, actor Nichelle Nicols’ astronaut recruitment activism and the complex genesis of HeLa cells, the first human materials sent into Space.

Dyer’s commission includes performance, animation and morse code. The work will utilise movement, drumming and Space landscapes, opening a conduit between the Andromeda galaxy and Earth. Continuing the epic world building characteristic of the HFO project, Speculative fiction, social justice and art history collide.

HFO: Andromeda will be screened for 48 hours as part of our online programme, broadcast via the homepage on our website. When to watch: 8pm July 13th – 8pm July 15th. All online commissions will be broadcast again as part of our marathon screening at 8pm, Thursday 15th July.

Commissioned by Art Night and Somerset House. Supported by the Adonyeva Foundation.
